Under the leadership of CEO David Cohen and EVP Sheryl Goldstein, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has implemented extensive DEI initiatives through its Inclusion Institute, raising questions about harassment and discrimination against White employees and stakeholders. Nadine Karp McHugh, hired in April 2024 as an Executive in Residence, focuses on “DEI, leadership, and creativity.” Amber Murat, VP of People, is an “Equity Designer”* “overseeing the organization's human resource functions”. IAB’s DEI initiatives, including the IAB Accelerate apprenticeship program and the Minority-Owned Media Showcase**, demonstrably prioritize "diverse talent" and "underrepresented groups," which could be interpreted as discriminatory against White individuals and businesses by offering preferential treatment based on race. The partnership with The Forem, which explicitly targets "women & underrepresented talent," further exemplifies a resource allocation strategy that favors specific demographic groups, potentially excluding White individuals from similar opportunities. Jessalin Lam, an Asian woman, as Vice President, Member Development and Diversity, was tasked with leading L&D and DEI programs, including the IAB Accelerate apprenticeship program. Michael Texidor, a Black man, is also identified as a contact for the apprenticeship program. IAB partners with various DEI experts, and places an emphases on "accountability" in DEI, warranting scrutiny to ensure metrics are applied neutrally and do not disproportionately target majority groups. Moreover, the facilitation of unconscious bias training by UniWorld Group introduces a risk of racial harassment if the content stereotypes or blames White employees for systemic inequalities, potentially fostering a hostile work environment. IAB’s Inclusion Institute aims to foster a "truly inclusive, equitable and diverse industry" by focusing on outreach, education, leadership development, and accountability. IAB’s practice of splitting employees and the world into two groups, “people of color” and White, can be seen as problematic as it creates distinctions based on race that could foster division, disparate treatment, and a hostile work environment. The consistent race-conscious focus of IAB's DEI programs and the nature of unconscious bias training is concerning. Cohen and Goldstein are ultimately responsible for overseeing these practices.
IAB instructs companies on DEI practices.
*DEI "equity" involves prioritizing certain racial, gender, or identity groups with targeted resources or opportunities to ensure equal outcomes at the cost of fairness and individual merit. DEI’s equity focus shares some similarities with communism and socialism in its group-based, redistributive approach, and with totalitarianism in ideological coercion.
**In 2025, non-Hispanic Whites are a minority in Hawaii, California, New Mexico, Texas, Nevada, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Georgia, with several other states like Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Arizona approaching majority-minority status. At an estimated 12.6% of the global population, White people are a global minority. MSQ is incorrect in viewing White people as an overarching majority.
